The lowest
operational costs
for cities

We deliver the most cost-efficient waste collection systems for cities.

Cost efficiency

Management approach
Our automated waste collection systems provide customers with the most cost-efficient waste collection solution. We help customers to lower their waste collection costs by requiring less waste collection trucks, labour and vehicle fuel costs.

Our systems provide additional opportunities to reduce other costs for cities that are indirect benefits of choosing our system, such as by freeing up more space for public amenities, and reducing property insurance premiums and pest control costs.

How we do it

Smarter waste collection solutions
Envac automated waste collection systems reduce the need for heavy traffic by about 90%. As collection trucks only need to go to a single pick up location with our system, it is more efficient in collecting waste in a shorter amount of time than traditional waste collection routes. This reduces vehicle, labour and fuel costs.

In the illustrations on the right, waste collection trucks only need to collect waste from a single terminal with Envac’s system in this neighbourhood – compared to collection from every property with a conventional waste collection system. This map is from a study financed by Vinnova on improved waste management in Stockholm city.

Heavy traffic collection with an Envac automated waste collection system

Heavy traffic collection with traditional waste collection

The investment of an Envac system is often higher than for conventional solutions. On the other hand, the system requires less surface space than conventional waste collection systems with waste containers. This space can be used to develop public amenities or other developments that can generate additional revenue for the customer. This can also create opportunities to make the Envac investment cost neutral from day one. Read more in the Wembley Park Case Story.

There are also opportunities for cities and businesses to lower indirect costs that are not directly linked to the automated waste collection. Such as reduced insurance premiums and the cost of pest control measures. Read more in the Bergen Case Story.

By using our innovation and AI technology in our EAP platform, we offer even more opportunities to make waste collection more cost efficient. EAP optimises the operation of the system to run in the most efficient way – to reduce operational energy use and cost.

Our optical sorting systems also provide smarter waste collection solutions by enabling several different fractions to be deposited in the same inlet. This can reduce the need for waste collection stations, and can significantly reduce transport and collection costs compared to competing systems. Read more about our Sorting Business Area.

Promoting energy efficiency
We strive to provide the most energy efficient systems – read more in the best environmental performance section.

Reduced energy use also has a direct reduction on operational costs. The operational energy costs to run our systems are significantly lower than the cost of logistics and fuel that are required for conventional waste management systems.

High-quality and resilient waste management infrastructure
We provide our customers with high-quality, long-lasting and resilient waste management systems. For example, our oldest system in the Sollefteå Hospital in Sweden has been in operation for over 60 years with only minor maintenance requirements. Read more in the Hospital Case Story. In addition, our systems also promote resilient waste management infrastructure by being less susceptible to damage or disruption from storms or extreme weather events.

Future ambitions

We want automated waste collection systems to be a natural part of a city’s infrastructure in the same way as cities have sewage or water supply piping systems.

Envac has proven to deliver cost-efficient waste collection systems for cities around the world, which are verified by independent studies. However, we have to strengthen our cost efficiency message for potential customers by raising awareness of the cost efficiency benefits of our system and by promoting independent cost analyses.

Our target to promote cost efficiency:

  • Raise customer awareness of the cost efficiency benefits of Envac products and solutions

Planned action to further promote cost efficiency
