Envac system makes recycling easier in
The newest neighbourhood in Copenhagen – Bellakvarter – is the first in the world to be equipped with an pneumatic waste collection system capable of handling five waste fractions, which fulfils current regulations and facilitates recycling for residents.
In 2020, half the Bellakvarter neighbourhood was complete and was being served by the Envac system with two more blocks connected to the system during the year. By early 2024 when the neighbourhood and the Envac system are complete, the system will serve around 2,000 households.
The Envac waste system has inlets for paper, cardboard, plastic, biowaste and residual waste with a central collection terminal.
“The new system has been developed to make it easy for residents to separate their waste into the different fractions as required by the local authority,” says Ole Steen Pedersen from developer Solstra Development. “And we are sure that the system will mean even more waste separation.”
“The latest Danish building regulations demand that households have waste sorting facilities close to their door – for example within 50 metres in Copenhagen – and an Envac system can ensure these requirements are met”
Thomas Rovsing, Managing Director, Envac Denmark.
“The Bellakvarter system is the first of its kind in the world to sort five fractions and has the potential to sort even more by using inlets for multiple fractions if necessary.”
The Envac system avoids the need for waste containers that cause odours and the risk of vermin. It also promotes safety as all waste is collected from a single collection terminal, which means that waste collection trucks do not need to navigate narrow residential streets.
